Remove AntiSpywareMaster Easily and without Incident

With more and more people logging onto the Internet each and every year, programs like AntiSpywareMaster are becoming more numerous all the time. While AntiSpywareMaster may sound like a great anti-spyware program that you can use to keep your machine clean, it is a program you can live without.

What is AntiSpywareMaster?

AntiSpywareMaster is part of a growing family of programs known as rogue anti-spyware programs. The point of these programs is simple: they want to scare you into buying the full priced version of their program by telling you that you have infections that you really don't. The list of spyware programs AntiSpywareMaster will suggest you have installed on your machine is scary, and all of them sound dangerous, but rest assured that in most cases, you do not have these programs on your machine. If you want to double check, run the virus program you already have installed on your computer to know for sure. AntiSpywareMaster is just one of many programs that function in the same way. Keep reading to discover how you can remove this program, and others like it, from your computer once and for all.

What you might notice

You will know when you've come into contact with AntiSpywareMaster because you will receive several pop up windows any time you get online. These windows will urge you to click on them for a free virus scan because "suspicious" files have been found on your computer. If you do click on one of these windows, a scanning window will appear and tell you that numerous infections exist on your machine and that you need to buy the full version of this scanning and anti-virus program right away.

If you aren't sure if the program has been downloaded to your computer and is now installed on your machine, there are a few other signs you can look for. First, your computer will likely be running much slower than it was before. This is because your computer only has so much in the way of resources to offer. You use some of those resources when you visit a webpage or write a paper, but a program like AntiSpywareMaster runs from the moment you turn on your computer to the moment you turn it off. Since it is always running, it is always using resources which leave less power to run other programs.

A second tell-tale sign that you might have this program installed on your computer is that whenever you open up a web browser, you will notice that your home page has been changed to the home page for AntiSpywareMaster. Even if you go ahead and change your home page back, you will notice that your home page has been redirected the next time you open a browser. Your redirect page may also have been switched to one for the program.

How did it get there?

If you're wondering why you are receiving pop ups from AntiSpywareMaster in the first place, it is likely that you visited a website that sold advertising space or banner ads to the people who run AntiSpywareMaster. There are millions of sites on the Internet that sell ad space to third parties, and you probably got redirected from another website to a site that deals with AntiSpywareMaster. All it takes is a few seconds on one of these web pages for the banner ad to detect your IP address, and you will begin receiving pop up ads from them every time you are online.

Removing AntiSpywareMaster

When it comes to removing a rogue program like AntiSpywareMaster, you have two choices: you can download a trusted and proven automatic anti-spyware program and use that or you can try to remove the program yourself. It is important to note that not all automatic anti-spyware programs are created equal, and some of them have a hard time removing an extremely tough rogue program like AntiSpywareMaster. If you need a trustworthy anti-spyware program you can count on, there are several. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (Malwarebytes has free malware removal) and Enigma's SpyHunter are two good ones. You can talk with friends and family members or you can read reviews on anti-spyware forums to find the right product for you.

Once you've chosen one, run the program once to find the infection. Restart and run the program a second time to ensure that your machine is clean and working properly.  If you are looking to remove this infection on your own, here are the steps you need to follow. Keep in mind that this isn't a good idea unless you're very experienced.

First, run the Windows Add/Remove program utility. Unlike some well known rogue programs, AntiSpywareMaster will show up on your add/remove programs list. Remove the program. Next, open Windows Explorer and delete these files manually if your add/remove programs utility didn't do it already:

AntiSpywareMaster 7.3.exe
AntiSpywareMaster.exe
AntiSpywareMaster.dll
AntiSpywareMaster.lnk

Next, open your computer's registry and find these entries, and then delete them.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionUninstallAntiSpywareMaster
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREAntispywareD
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREAntiSpywareDeluxe
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionUninstall

PLEASE NOTE: It is EXTREMELY dangerous to alter or change your registry in any way if you are not a computer expert who has experience in registry cleaning.
