Antivirus Pro

There are a variety of rogue antivirus programs, but their goal is always the same.  They seek to urge computer users to buy their software and their main mode of "encouragement" is the incessant use of pop-ups and false scan results.  Antivirus Pro is one such program that offers protection but provides little in the way of actual results.  How can you recognize Antivirus Pro and other rogue programs?

What is Antivirus Pro?

Rogue antivirus programs routinely run false scans in order to validate their request that you download their software.  Antivirus Pro, also known as Antivirus Pro 2009, behaves in the typical manner by displaying a list of infected files.  These infections really don't exist; in fact, the only thing adversely affecting your computer's performance is Antivirus Pro 2009.  This program will also list legitimate programs as threats.  After listing the various files it has "found," Antivirus Pro urges users to install the full version, as it is the only way to rid themselves of the threats.  This, however, will not work.  Rogue antivirus programs are ineffective and will not remove or protect against viruses or other infections.

Is Antivirus Pro In My System?

The most noticeable sign that Antivirus Pro is in your computer is the pop-ups and warnings you will receive each time you start a Windows session.  We tend to ignore pop-ups but it is important to note the name, appearance, and other information so we can learn to recognize rogue programs.  Alerts from Antivirus Pro have the name in the upper left corner. You will also notice a shield logo that is very similar to that of a legitimate antivirus program.  The alert tells you that your protection level is low, and that general security, privacy protection, and automatic updating are turned off, and that your computer is at risk.

The pop-ups also feature the name Antivirus Pro or Antivirus Pro 2009, so make sure to read all pop-ups carefully.  A typical one reads:

Trojan detected!
A piece of malicious code was found on your system which can
replicate itself if no action is taken. Click here to have your
system cleaned by Antivirus Pro 2009.

The pop-ups very closely mimic other virus scan programs, making it very easy for users to simply click on the ad, believing they are installing necessary protection. 

If Antivirus Pro is installed in your system, you will notice that it operates much slower than usual. If your computer takes longer to boot, open programs, or perform other tasks, it is likely that a rogue program has been installed.  Other telltale signs include new desktop shortcuts, taskbars, or icons on your system tray.  Antivirus Pro adds these in the hopes that you will click on them and allow installation. 

If left in your computer, Antivirus Pro may cause other issues.  In addition to pop-ups, changed browser settings, and slow performance, this program may generate emails that are loaded with viruses, spam, phish, and other forms of malware and send them from your inbox.  This allows it to spread to other computers.  In your system, Antivirus Pro's presence allows other Trojans to gain access.  Removing it as soon as possible will help maintain your computer's security and integrity.

How Did Antivirus Pro Become Installed?

If you did not opt to purchase the full version of Antivirus Pro from one of their myriad rogue websites or ads, then you may wonder how it was downloaded onto your computer.  If you are experiencing the issues described above, it is likely that the "trial version" or "demo version" of Antivirus Pro found its way to you through trojans. Visiting certain cites, clicking on ads or banners on these sites, or opening spam email attachments.  Antivirus Pro is associated with the trojan Braviax. Braviax, also called Cru629 brings malware like Antivirus Pro into your system.  Where are you likely to encounter Braviax or other trojans like Vundo or Zlob?  Sites containing adult content, pirated material, gaming options, freeware, shareware, or filing sharing options are particularly vulnerable to trojans.

How Do I Remove Antivirus Pro?

There are two options for removing Antivirus Pro from your system.  One is automatic removal.  This is the best option for everyone who encounters this program because it is easy, quick, and effective.  The key to properly removing rogue antivirus programs is making sure each file associated is deleted.  This can be tricky because there tend to be quite a number of them, all with very similar codes and names, and it is easy to miss one or two.  Doing so may cause Antivirus Pro to recreate itself.  It is also easy to delete a necessary file, impacting your computer's performance even more.  This is why automatic removal by programs like Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (Malwarebytes has free malware removal) are recommended.  These reputable applications detect rogue programs and remove every trace. Removing Antivirus Pro Automatically/Safely
