Discover a brave new world without BraveSentry

The Internet is a great place to have fun, do research, and learn about new things, but it can also be the ultimate battleground between good and evil. For every program out there that protects your computer from Internet bad guys, there are dozens of programs that are designed to trick you and take money out of your pocket. The hardest part can be distinguishing the good programs from the ones you can live without. With a name like BraveSentry, this program sounds exactly like the kind of program you need, but many users discover that once you install it, you can't uninstall it.

What is BraveSentry?

BraveSentry is known as a rogue anti-spyware program. Its job is to convince you that you need to download and install its larger parent program to protect your computer from all sorts of Internet predators. It attempts to perform this task by flooding your computer screen with pop-up windows demanding that you "click here right now" and purchase the full version of BraveSentry. It also uses pop-up scan windows that give you many false positives to make you think that your computer has an extensive spyware problem, and that you need to act quickly to solve the problem. This program is also known by the names SpySherriff, Spyware-No, Brave Sentry, among others. It is a good idea to remove this program from your system, so keep reading to learn how.

What Might I Notice Once BraveSentry is Installed?

Programs like BraveSentry offer several tell-tale signs if they are installed on your computer. The first is the endless stream of pop-up windows and fake scans that you will receive at an almost non-stop rate. Sometimes these pop-ups can completely take over your Internet browser and cause you to completely lose control over what you are doing. If this happens, the smart thing to do is to simply close out all of your browser windows together. If you can't do that, try to restart your computer to regain control of it.

Second, you will likely notice browser hijacking. A browser hijack occurs when your Internet browser is taken over and sent to a website you never asked to visit. This is most often seen when you start your web browser for the first time after receiving the program, and any time you hit the "home" button on your browser after that. You can also experience browser hijacks every so often when you are browsing (after every ten clicks, or maybe every fifty).

Finally, you will also notice a general slow down in the way your computer works. Since BraveSentry is running in the background of your machine from the time you start up to the time you turn your computer off, it impacts the speed in which your computer runs. If you listen to your hard drive as it works, you will likely notice the sound of your computer working harder at all times.

How did BraveSentry get Installed?

Most people run into BraveSentry in a few different ways. Some people notice BraveSentry on their computer once they have downloaded another program and installed it. What happens in most cases is that BraveSentry is "piggybacked" onto another program that is advertised as freeware or shareware. The site in which you downloaded the program from is often paid a small fee to bundle BraveSentry with their program.

You also might have downloaded the program by accident when you opened an attachment in an email you got from a friend or from someone you don't know. This may have been done on purpose, or it might have happened without the person who sent you the email knowing it.

You may also have gotten the program automatically installed when you visited a questionable website. If you feel like that is how you got BraveSentry installed on your computer, it is a good idea to never visit that website again.

How do I Remove BraveSentry?

You have two choices when it comes to removing BraveSentry from your computer once and for all. You can choose to perform an automatic uninstall by downloading the latest version of a good antispyware program like Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (Malwarebytes has free malware removal) and running it on a regular basis, or you can perform a manual removal of the program.

Please note that if you have chosen a manual removal of the program, you should seriously consider backing up not only your system registry, but also all of the vitally important files on your computer so that they are protected. When you perform a manual removal of a program, you are going to be asked to change your system registry, which can cause major problems on your machine if not done correctly. Take a moment to review the file list at the end of this articles to begin the manual removal process.
