Malware DoctorMalware Doctor - A Cure Worse Than The Ailment Computer security is important to all of us these days. Unfortunately, some programs that claim to provide security just can't live up to their promises as well as one would hope, and Malware Doctor is just one of many rogue antispyware programs that is better removed than left on your computer. The Nature of Malware Doctor Technically speaking, Malware Doctor is a rogue security application. It is installed on your computer with the help of a Trojan. Most security experts suggest the program itself originated in the Russian Federation. Quite similar to a program called Malware Doc, you are likely to notice a number of different problems if this program is installed on your machine. One of the first things you'll probably notice if you do have Malware Doctor on your computer is that a scan window will pop up on a regular basis to suggest that you have a spyware problem. The scan window looks fairly professional. You'll see the Malware Doctor logo across the top. It's typically pasted over a grey background. Along the left side of the application window, you're likely to see a menu bar with buttons for Scan, System Status, Options, Update, and Protection. The Scan menu button often has other options just under it including one that says "Start Scan" and a place to customize the scan. The rest of the application window is consumed with the actual scan task. You'll see a progress bar and a list of files the application has found to be infected. Once the "scan" is complete, you'll usually see a warning that says something like "Malware Doctor has found threats on your computer. It is strongly recommended to proceed with removal." Within the list of problem files, you'll probably see some fairly scary names. It is essential to remember, though, that none of those files are actually installed on your computer. This false scanning process is designed to find the same files on every computer it scans. Removing Malware Doctor also means staying safe from the programs it lists. In addition to regular scans of your computer, you may also notice a variety of very official looking security alerts. These usually come in two different forms. One type of security alert Malware Doctor displays looks a lot like a typical pop up advertisement. It can occur whether you're online or not. In most cases, it will suggest that your computer has a security problem of some kind. Clicking on the ad itself will lead you directly to the Malware Doctor website where you'll be prompted to purchase the full version of the program. The other type of security alert you may notice if Malware Doctor is installed on your computer will look like a Windows Security Alert. These often emanate from the system tray right next to your computer's clock. It will usually warn you that you have a security problem and the only way to fix it is to click on the pop up balloon and update your protection level. Doing so, though, will just direct you to the Malware Doctor website. You may also notice that your computer is a bit slower than it normally is. Malware Doctor is designed to start running as soon as your computer does, and as a result, everything is a bit slower than it should be. Whether you're trying to start an application or use several of them at once, it will seem as if everything is ticking at a much slower pace than normal. One final thing you may notice is that browsing the internet becomes a bit more arduous than it once was. Not only will you find internet pop ups that suggest you have a security problem, but you may also be redirected away from pages you want to view. Malware Doctor has a history of blocking your access to a variety of security and firewall type websites, and it also has the ability to send you to a page that suggests you have security problem installed on your machine. Removing Malware Doctor Perhaps your best bet when you get ready to remove Malware Doctor is to use a program like ParetoLogic's XoftSpySE . This will not only help eliminate this particular program from your machine, but it will also help keep you safe from other similar programs. Should you choose to remove the program manually, it is essential to note that you must be very careful. Accidentally deleting a necessary registry key or program file could further damage your computer, and leaving part of Malware Doctor on your machine will only cause the program to recreate itself. Manual removal is recommended only for experienced users. A list of affected program files and registry keys appears at the end of this article. Malware Doctor is not the best security solution for your machine. If you notice it is installed on your computer, removing it immediately is the best course of action.
