You Can Shop At Home Without ShopAtHomeSelect!

Much of the content we see online is supported by ad-revenue. There are few commercial sites that would be able to survive without this valuable source of income, but that doesn't mean that every ad you see is important to the sites you like to visit. In fact, there are a number of products online, dubbed adware, were designed to look at the way you browse online and send you targeted ads each time you look at something. Software like this can feel rather intrusive, and it's a good way to eat up bandwidth and computer resources that you could easily be using for other purposes. ShopAtHomeSelect is one of the many pieces of adware floating around today's information superhighway, and removing it at your earliest convenience will save you an extensive amount of time and frustration.

Installing ShopAtHomeSelect

There are a few different ways this program may have become part of your system. In some cases, you may have actually installed the program manually with the hope that it might save you some cash in the long run, and while that's a perfectly acceptable thought, it's likely that you've now noticed it's far more frustrating than helpful.

ShopAtHomeSelect may have also come bundled with other software packages. Many have noticed that it often comes bundled with a number of different ad-supported shareware and freeware packages to help offset the cost of such downloads, and that means it could have been installed on your machine without your knowledge or permission.

It's important to note that ShopAtHomeSelect has a number of different aliases that you might see as you begin to research the program. These include Golden Retriever, ShopAtHome, SAHAgent and SAHAgent Adware.

Have You Noticed Any of the Following?

If you do have this program installed on your computer, there are a number of different things you may notice as you turn it on each day.

  • Initially, most people notice the advertisements themselves. ShopAtHomeSelect is actually a browser helper object, or BHO. That means that it has the ability to load as soon as you turn your web browser on. Moreover, it has the ability to redirect your browser to any site it wishes. For example, if from the Internet Explorer home page you search for a new way to wash your bath towels, it could not only direct you to a site that sells bath towels, but it may also display a notification. Some of them say something like "ShopAtHomeSelect cash rebates are unavailable at this time. Please try again later." Some of them simply display an advertisement that is supposed to be linked to your search terms, but often isn't. In some cases, these advertisements may display inappropriate content.
  • Many others notice changed Internet Explorer or other browser settings. This program does have the ability to shift your start page as well as your redirect page to something entirely different. Even if you choose to shift it back, it's still possible for the program to take control and choose another page for you once you shut down your browser, then turn it back on again.
  • New desktop shortcuts are another hallmark of this program. Often your entire screen, as you turn your computer on each day, will be filled with shortcuts to sites that you didn't create. This is simply the program attempting to collect affiliate dollars because you purchase a product displayed through its advertisements.
  • One final problem you may notice involves your system as a whole. This program takes up the resources you might use for other software on your computer, and that can often leave your machine with a generally sluggish feel. If you've noticed some trouble switching between the applications you have open or opening new ones, it's distinctly possible that the feature is related to ShopAtHomeSelect.

While there are other potential problems you might see with your computer, these tend to be the most common, as well as the most exasperating.

Removing ShopAtHomeSelect

If the program is on your machine, the single best thing you can do is to take a number of different steps to remove it immediately. While it's not dangerous in and of itself, it's does collect and transmit information about your browsing habits, and it has the ability to send information back to a home server so targeted ads can be displayed. It could also, potentially, create security holes within your system that allow other adware or spyware through.

Keep in mind that this program is not a traditional virus, so even if you do have antivirus software, it won't be able to filter it out. Antivirus software is designed to download updates from its home site that define viruses themselves, and this program does not contain that kind of coding.

It's also important to note that simply looking at the Add/Remove Programs panel and clicking remove won't take care of this issue either. It has the ability to hide files, then recreate itself at a later date.

There are two basic ways to remove ShopAtHomeSelect from your computer. First, you can choose to remove the program manually. That will involve working within your computer's program files and registry in order to delete all of the entries it has created. While this is not inherently dangerous, if you're not entirely sure how to handle either of those tasks, it's a job best left to an experienced professional, as mistakes in either of those screens could cripple your system.

The other way to remove ShopAtHomeSelect from your computer is to install a helpful antispyware tool. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (Malwarebytes has free malware removal) and Enigma's SpyHunter are two excellent examples. Once you install the right program to meet your needs on your machine, update it, and allow it to scan your computer. It will automatically remove ShopAtHomeSelect from your computer. Updating it regularly and setting it to automatically scan your machine will keep adware like this, as well as other problem programs, from taking root on your computer.
