Guard against SpyGuarder While millions of people make their living on the Internet each and every day, it is easy to see how some people can be quite scared of this still new technology. It seems that everywhere you turn online, there is a site offering you help for this or assistance for that. In the case of a program known as SpyGuarder, pop up windows will tell you that you need to buy and download their program right away to save your computer from certain doom, but when users follow these directions, they often end up getting more than they bargained for. Let's take a look at the program, how it works and how you can remove SpyGuarder from your computer once and for all. What is SpyGuarder? SpyGuarder is known as a rogue anti spyware program. Without the computer user knowing, SpyGuarder will install a small program on your computer when you visit certain websites. The program will cause a series of scary looking pop up windows to appear on your computer telling you that you are infected with various spyware, adware and virus programs that are putting your computer at risk. You will then be told that you must purchase and download the full SpyGuarder program so that your computer can be saved. What makes SpyGuarder so convincing is that the pop up windows created by the program are very authentic looking. They look like the notices that appear from your Windows operating system or from your already installed anti virus program. Many people click on the pop ups and follow through with the purchase without even thinking that it is from a program they didn't even request to have on their computer in the first place. What You Might Notice with SpyGuarder Programs like SpyGuarder are well known for slowing your computer's performance drastically. If you start to notice that everything is taking longer to happen on your computer, you might have SpyGuarder installed. From the time it takes to open and close programs to the time it takes to start and shut down your computer, virtually every process can be affected. You may also notice that your web browser goes directly to the home page for SpyGuarder and not your real start page when you click on your internet browser. No matter how many times you try to fix this setting, it will revert back to the SpyGuader home page. This is a sure sign you have this program installed. How did it get there? Don't feel bad that you have this piece of rogue anti-spyware installed on your computer. It happens to thousands of people each and every day. In most cases, the only thing you did wrong is click on a link that took you to a page that featured advertising from SpyGuarder. If you accidentally surfed to a website that attempted to install SpyGuarder on your computer, you may have noticed a whole series of pop up windows that are difficult or impossible to close out. You may have even noticed a screen that was claiming to scan your computer for viruses and other malware. In almost all cases, you don't actually have the viruses on your machine that the pop ups said you do. If you think you might, close out your browser and run the anti virus or anti spyware program that you have already installed on your computer. What should I do? SpyGuarder Removal and Prevention Tips The best thing you can do is to not click on that particular link ever again and stay away from any similar pages that you might have visited. You can also install a pop up blocker in your web browser to try to reduce the total number of pop ups. Should you get in a situation where SpyGuarder tries to install itself through a series of pop up windows, instead of trying to close out each individual pop up window, you would likely be better off closing out your browser entirely and not visiting that website ever again. If you need to remove SpyGuarder from your computer, keep in mind that the pop ups that you'll see once the program that is installed on your computer will do everything they can to scare you into purchasing the full version of SpyGuarder. The first step is not to click on them and purchase the full version of the program. When it comes to SpyGuarder removal, you have two realistic choices. The first is to simply download a real anti spyware program like ParetoLogic's XoftSpySE , or you can try to remove the program from your system yourself manually. Please note that manual removal of these types of programs should only be done by an expert or by someone who has done it before successfully. If you choose to remove the program manually, start with removing the program using the add/remove program utility in the Windows Control Panel. Likely, this will only remove part of the program and the rest will have to be done a bit at a time. Use CTRL-Alt-Del to open your program control and stop the process listed as: spyguarder.exe Than open your registry and delete the values: HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun"SpyGuarder" = "C:Documents and SettingsAdministratorspyguarder.exe" Finally, find and delete the files: %UserProfile%Application DataSpyGuarderspline.dat %UserProfile%Application DataSpyGuarderbase.dat %UserProfile%Application DataSpyGuarderbase2.dat %UserProfile%Application DataSpyGuarderDesc.dat %UserProfile%Application DataSpyGuarderSpyGuarder.ini Please note that registry deletions and file deletions should only be done by experts. Occasionally new variants are released to thwart antispyware programs. If you require personal assistance removing SpyGuarder please email your log file for analysis by using the Backup List button in XoftSpySE. Otherwise use the Help button in XoftSpySE to contact ParetoLogic support directly. This webpage was setup to provide information on SpyGuarder removal. We do not own or endorse SpyGuarder. |
