SpyMarshal - No Match For The Good Sheriff.

When you're shopping around for anti-spyware and anti-virus software, you're treading on dangerous territory. There are a number of programs out there making false claims that they will protect your computer - in actuality they will do it harm! SpyMarshal is one of these rogue spyware removers that you may have downloaded on accident. (In fact, SpyMarshal may have installed itself on your computer without your knowledge.)

What Is SpyMarshal

SpyMarshal is adware that promises to scan your computer for spyware and promptly get rid of it! The SpyMarshal website accurately defines what spyware is and includes statistics like "9 out of every 10 PC's are infected." It even informs web users of the symptoms that their computer is infected; they might have to cope with a sluggish Internet, unwanted pop-ups and advertisements, a new default homepage, strange tool bars, and junk e-mail. Complete with a section for terms of use and how to download and ultimately buy the software is enough to convince many people that it is legitimate. But once they download SpyMarshal, they have unknowingly opened up a Pandora's box and suddenly all those "symptoms" SpyMarshal declared it would remove, are suddenly occurring!

Is my computer infected?

If your computer is uncharacteristically slow - i.e. it seems to take ages to open up a website or do a reboot - or you encounter desktop shortcuts and/or a default homepage you don't recognize, or if you find yourself overwhelmed by by pop-ups, then your computer just might be infected! Not only will your computer use be severely impeded, but you may also lose files and your personal and financial information may not be private anymore.

The Good News About SpyMarshal

You can remove SpyMarshal and reverse the harm it has done to your computer. However, it's not an easy process. SpyMarshal gets to your computer with the use of a trojan. SpyMarshal will plague your computer with pop-up ads and warnings that your computer is in bad shape and needs even more help with the full SpyMarshal version! In other words, you'll be told that your computer has many security risks that can only be taken care of with the complete SpyMarshal software, which you have to pay for. Do not fall for this trick if you indeed have installed the rogue program already.

SpyMarshal removal is not the easiest thing, but it can be done.

Wait, what's a trojan?

You just read that SpyMarshal uses a "trojan" to get to your computer. A trojan can make its way into your computer through e-mail, a website, or a file-sharing program. You won't know if you've downloaded a trojan, but don't underestimate its power. A trojan virtually controls your computer, changing your settings and deleting your files, and it can even invade your privacy, as some trojans double as spyware and will monitor your Internet activity for a third party.

First Thing's First - Removing SpyMarshal

The sooner you detect SpyMarshal's presence on your computer, the better. Your first step is to simply uninstall the hazardous software. In order to do this, head over to your control panel (from the start menu) and click on the "add/remove programs" icon. Soon, a list of all the programs installed on your computer will pop up - scroll down to SpyMarshal and click "add/remove" or "change/remove," whichever one is your option. A wizard will guide you through the uninstall.

There are, though, two problems you may still run into with this method of removing SpyMarshal. The first is that you didn't find SpyMarshal on the program list and thus couldn't uninstall it. The other is that even after the uninstall, your computer is still having problems and SpyMarshal has merely recreated itself and is still bothering you. Now, your approach might be to remove SpyMarshal manually. However, this is very challenging and if you make a mistake, your computer will end up in worse condition than before! So, if you do plan to remove SpyMarshal in this way, then you either need to invest in the help of a friend or family member who is a computer whiz or take your infected computer to a professional. Otherwise, you risk destroying your computer, which would be a little counter-productive. If you do have someone to help, there are file names you can search for on your computer and if you come up with results, you must delete these files immediately. The file names to be on the watch out for are: SpyMarshal.exe, SpyMarshal, SpyMarshal3.dll, and SpyMarshal.lnk.

Luckily, there is another option for removing SpyMarshal. It's recommended that you use the help of an anti-virus or anti-spyware program that you can buy from an official website or store. Authentic removal software can be very powerful and will say goodbye to SpyMarshal for you, so you don't have to lift a finger. You can go on the web or talk to some experts at an electronics store to find out what your options are for such programs.  Automatic software removal that will be of service include Enigma's SpyHunter, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (Malwarebytes has free malware removal) and many other programs; there are even a few detection and removal programs designed specifically to remove SpyMarshal.

Prevention is key!

The rule of thumb is treat every anti-spyware program advertisement as suspicious. SpyMarshal, which started appearing on computers in late December of 2006, is essentially the same as SpySheriff, which is an adware program that preceded it. SpyMarshal is supposedly produced by the company BraveSentry. As soon as people catch onto it, other rogue anti-spyware programs will surely take its place, and that's why you have to be constantly on the look out for them. Be wary of email attachments, Internet downloads, and other files you plan on installing over the web.

Try to avoid falling into the trap from the get-go, but if SpyMarshal and its cohorts still come to town on your computer, just make sure to detect and remove them right away and your computer and peace of mind will be fine.

Removing SpyMarshal Automatically/Safely

For free automatic removal we recommend using Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. This program is widely recommended by reputable third-party sites, so you can be reasonably confident of its ability to safely get rid of SpyMarshal and any hidden Trojans. As a precaution we recommend double checking your system with SpyHunter. This program requires paid registration to enable deletions, however it has a money back guaranteed and is the top of the line in malware removal. It should catch malware that evades Malwarebytes and block anything that tries to reinstal itself.
