SpywareStrike - Is It Striking Home With You?

If you've recently noticed system slowdowns or odd messages on your screen indicating that you might be infected with a serious spyware problem, the chances are pretty good that you have an adware program called SpywareStrike on your machine.

What is SpywareStrike?

SpywareStrike is an adware program that pretends to be a software program that will help you protect your computer from other spyware programs. It will pretend to scan your computer and give you false information as to the spyware problems you have on your machine. It then demands money attempt to fix these problems that are not real issues in the first place. SpywareStrike can affect any version of Windows, including Windows Server models.

How Did I Get SpywareStrike?

For many users, SpywareStrike invaded your machine through the zlob trojan. It would have downloaded and installed itself, and there was probably little that you could have done to prevent the problem in the first place. In some cases, though, it may have been attached to another program you downloaded and installed on your machine. Still, in other instances, you may have downloaded the program directly, thinking it would actually protect your system from threats.

Are There Programs Similar to SpywareStrike?

The most similar program to SpywareStrike is SpyAxe. It, too, installs through the zlob trojan, and both the marketing that surrounds the programs and the logos are nearly identical to each other. In most cases, if you happen to have one on your computer, you probably have the other one installed on your machine as well.

What Might I Notice With SpywareStrike?

There are several problems you might notice if SpywareStrike is installed on your machine. One of the first things you will notice is that your home page settings on your browser have been changed. In many instances, you will be redirected to www.spywarestrike.com during any given browsing experience. You may also notice that your internet security settings have been changed, leaving your personal information vulnerable to other adware and spyware programs that might send them to third parties. Another thing you may notice with SpywareStrike is popup messages suggesting that your computer is at risk from spyware. You may even get a phony scan that detects false spyware. You, of course, can't run the full version of the program until you've paid them, and once you have, the spyware will not be eliminated from your system. SpywareStrike will begin as soon as you start Windows each time, so until you eliminate it from your system, there's no hope of it not running in the background during each session.

How Can I Remove SpywareStrike?

SpywareStrike removal is not as simple as heading to the add/remove programs control panel and hitting delete. While this has actually worked for some users, it is recommended that you scan your system to be sure it has actually worked. If you miss a single program file with this one, the installation  process will start all over again, forcing you into the same position you were before you started the process. There are three other ways you can eliminate it from your system. First, you can go through the manual removal process. This involves eliminating all of the program files that were created during installation, and editing your computer's registry. It is important to remember, though, that editing your computer's registry is quite serious, and should you make a mistake during the SpywareStrike removal process, you could seriously damage your operating system, and a fix like that just isn't an easy one. As a result, it's a good idea if you get the help of a professional when working with your registry. Should you choose this option, there is a list of files and registry keys that must be eliminated following this article. The next option involves booting your computer up to its last known good settings. This option, though, also  has a couple of drawbacks. First, SpywareStrike can hit any version of Window, and not all versions offer that option. Second, booting to those settings may not actually remove the problem, so you may be back in the same spot your were to begin with. Your final option is to update and run your anti-spyware. Most programs will recognize SpywareStrike as a problem and eliminate it. If you don't have a good anti-spyware program on your computer, it is important to find and install one. The biggest problem, though, is that many of them offered are simply adware programs similar to SpywareStrike. Talk to friends and family, and see which programs they use. Look at unbiased reviews to get the best program on the market. ParetoLogic is a good one. When you get it, keep it updated, and run a regular scan. This should help to remove SpywareStrike, its clones, and any other spyware or adware programs that might end up on your computer.
