System Tool 2011 Is Not the Tool You Want To Protect Your PC

These days, the right security tools on your computer are an absolute must. After all, most people use their computers for virtually everything from paying bills to downloading their favorite songs and television shows. As a result, protecting the information stored on your computer is critical to protecting your identity. Unfortunately, programs like System Tool 2011 pose as real security programs without actually offering you the level of protection you need from other malicious programs.

Defining System Tool 2011

System Tool 2011 is classified as rogue security software. In some cases, you may hear this program, and those like it, called scareware. It attempts to frighten you into purchasing the full version of the program by creating fake error messages and security alerts on your computer.

System Tool 2011 has a number of different aliases including System Tool, Security Tool, SystemTool2011, and PC Tool 2011. For brevity we'll just call it System Tool. It is typically installed on your computer thanks to a Trojan, and most users immediately recognize its presence but may be fooled into thinking it's a legitimate security program.

The Hallmarks of System Tool 2011

If you do have System Tool installed on your computer, there are several things that you will notice almost immediately. First, you'll see a system scan. This can happen on a regular basis while System Tool is installed on your computer. The scanning window itself looks very much like any other security software program. In the top left corner, you'll see the System Tool logo with a menu panel down the left side. With options like System Scan, Protection, Privacy, Update, and Settings, this program looks like it should be a comprehensive solution to your security needs. The main pane of the window is devoted to the scan itself. The bottom suggests the level of progress the scan has made on your computer, while the top lists the files that are being "found" on your machine. Once the scan is complete, you'll be asked to "clean up" the files found. Clicking on "Remove," however, will lead you to a payment screen where you'll be asked to purchase the full version of the software so you can clean your computer.

In addition to these regular scans of your machine, you may also find that you receive error messages on a regular basis. In some cases, these will occur when you click on a legitimate program and attempt to open it. Often the error message associated with this reads

Warning!
Application cannot be executed. The file cmd.exe is infected.
Please activate your antivirus software.

You may see other error messages appear on your screen as well. These can either appear as traditional pop up advertisements or as messages directly from your computer. If that's the case, they'll emanate from your system tray, right next to your computer's clock. Here are a few of the messages you may see.

Security Monitor: WARNING!
Attention: System detected a potential hazard (TrojanSPM/LX) on your computer that may infect executable files. Your private information and PC safety is at risk. To get rid of unwanted spyware and keep your computer safe you need to update your current security software.
Click Yes to download official intrusion detection system (IDS software).

Warning: Your computer is infected
Windows has detected spyware infection!
Click this message to install the last update of Windows security software...

System Tool Warning
Intercepting programs that may compromise your private and harm your system have been detected on your PC.
Click here to remove them immediately with System Tool.

Clicking on any of these messages will only lead you to the request for payment where you'll be asked to buy the full version of the program. It's important to note that buying the full version of the program will not protect your system. This application is not designed to actually provide you with the security you need. In fact, buying the full version of the program won't even stop the error messages or scans from appearing on your machine. It's just not designed to do anything to protect your computer from harm.

The scans and error messages are certainly problematic, but System Tool still has at least one more surprise in store for you. It can add icons to your computer and change your desktop background as well. If you notice icons for the program itself, or any of the program's clones, you almost certainly have System Tool installed on your computer. You may also find that your desktop has become a blue background with ones and zeros behind it. The message in the forefront typically reads

Warning!

You're In Danger!

Your Computer is Infected with Spyware!

All you do with your computer forever is stored in your hard disk. When you visit sites, send emails . . .All your actions are logged. And it's impossible to remove them with standard tools. Your data is still available for forensics and in some cases.

For your boss, your friends, your wife, your children.

Every site you or somebody or even something, like spyware, opened in your browsers, with all the images, and all the downloaded and maybe later removed movies or mp3 songs - are still there and could break your life.

Remove All Spyware From Your PC!

One thing you may quickly notice about System Tool is that the error messages you see are often misspelled or filled with grammatical errors. It's thought that the program originated in Russia, so very few of the messages you will see with this program have the language you might expect from a professional software company.

The Anti-Virus Software Solution

Many users who have System Tool simply believe that running their current antivirus software program will take care of the issue for them. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. System Tool is rogue security software, and it isn't technically a virus. Some antivirus programs are built only to handle viruses, instead of rogue software problems. If your antivirus solution didn't prevent the program from being installed on your computer, it's likely that it won't be able to detect and remove the associated files from your machine.

Removing System Tool 2011

If you do have this application on your computer, your best bet is to remove it right away. There are two primary ways to remove System Tool from your computer. The first, and perhaps the best, method of removal is to install reputable antispyware software like Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (Malwarebytes has free malware removal) and Enigma's SpyHunter. A complete security solution is the best way to prevent rogue security programs like these from appearing on your computer. Once you've installed something that you think will work for you, update the definition files, run the scan, and ask the program to remove any questionable programs it finds. This process will take care of it immediately. If you set the scanner to update itself and run on a regular basis, System Tool, and programs like it, won't become a problem in the future.

The other method you can use to remove System Tool is the manual removal method. This does involve editing your computer's registry as well as deleting program files, so it's probably not the best idea for inexperienced computer users. Working within your computer's registry and deleting program files can be dangerous. If you require assistance with either of these tasks, please email us for complete instructions. A list of associated files and registry keys appears at the end of this article.

Removing System Tool is the best way to keep your computer safe. As soon as you begin to notice any signs that it is installed on your machine, take the proper precautions and get rid of it.
