VirusBursters - Bursting Your Happy Computing Bubble

Worried that you have spyware on your computer? It may simply be an adware program like VirusBursters trying to frighten you into making a purchase you don't need.

What is VirusBursters?

VirusBursters is an adware application that attempts to sell the full version of its product through scare tactics like imitation Windows notification balloons and false scan results. It is a low level threat to your machine, but it's important to remove it from your computer at your earliest opportunity, as it creates a hole in your computer's security system that could allow other adware and spyware programs to slip through unnoticed.

How Did I Get VirusBursters?

It's difficult to tell exactly how you got VirusBursters on your computer. While a few users report incidents of drive by installations (they were visiting an unrelated site, and VirusBursters took advantage of the opportunity to simply install), many other users report that VirusBursters was attached to recently downloaded software. In some cases, the presences of VirusBursters is disclosed. In other case, however, the installation of VirusBursters comes with little warning, and in most instances, it certainly isn't accompanied with the correct paperwork like a EULA and a privacy policy.

What Might I Notice With VirusBursters?

If you do have VirusBursters on your machine, there are several things you might notice. One of the most common early signs is a slower machine response time. A program like VirusBursters literally eats your computer's virtual memory alive. Any computer only has so much space to run the tasks you ask it to. Some programs eat up more of that space than others, and VirusBursters is certainly a space hog. Instead of your machine taking its normal few seconds at a time to open the program you request, it could now take several minutes. VirusBursters has several associated processses that it runs at once, and VirusBursters is designed to run as soon as your machine is turned on. As a result, your CPU usage is usually up around seventy-five percent when only VirusBursters is on. Turning a few of your programs on as well will only cause these numbers to go up, creating a complete system stall.

Another thing you are sure to notice if VirusBursters is installed on  your machine is popup advertisements for the program or its associates. During any short browsing experience, you're likely to have to eliminate ten to twelve popups about VirusBursters on your machine. Most of them will warn of a spyware infection. In addition to the popups, you may  notice fake Windows notification balloons coming from your system tray. Most of them say something like "Your Computer Is In Danger! Windows Security Center spyware/adware infection! It is strongly recommended to use special antispyware tools to prevent data loss. Click here to install the latest protection tools!"Some users even report more serious tactics. Sometimes VirusBursters will try to prevent you from accessing the internet. Often you will get a message that suggests something like "Your system has been stopped to protect you from Spyware." Others have a desktop background that is replaced with something like: "SPYWARE INFECTION! Your system is infected with spyware. Windows recommends that you use a spyware removal tool to prevent loss of data. Using this PC before having it cleaned of spyware threats is highly discouraged." This isn't all, though. Sometimes the computer will popup the VirusBursters program itself, and it will "scan" your system. It always finds a serious spyware infection, and according the scan results, your only option is to purchase the full version of the program immediately.

A few other things you might notice with VirusBursters is a new home page on your internet browser and new links on your desktop. In most cases, the browser redirect is the VirusBursters home page, and again, it will attempt to sell you the product. The links are either for VirusBurster or associated products, but it is important not to click on them, as they could install additional adware, malware, or spyware on your computer.

Remove VirusBursters

VirusBurster is not only an annoyance, it also opens security holes in your system for other products to slip through, so it is important to remove VirusBurster as soon as you get a chance. There are four possible VirusBurster removal options. First, you can try to remove it through the add/remove programs function of your control panel. This, though, will have very little effect on  your system. Even if you think you have it removed, the chances are good that it will reappear on your computer the very next time you turn it on.

Your next option is to remove VirusBursters through a system restore. This, though, doesn't work for all versions of Windows, and it will only work right after VirusBursters has become part of your machine. It takes most users several days to figure out what the problem is, and by that time, it is deeply rooted within your system.

You could also try to remove VirusBursters manually. Keep in mind, though, that in order to do this, you will need to remove all of the associated program files and registry keys, and this can be very diffcult. VirusBursters creates many program files and registry keys, and finding them all to facilitate a successful removal is a little difficult in most cases. You should also remember that working within your system's registry is dangerous. A single mistaken keystroke could quite literally destroy your entire computer system. If you've never worked with a registry before, it's best not to start now, but if you insist, you should probably have a professional do it for you or at least have one by your side as you do it the first time.

Your final VirusBursters removal option is to use your antispyware software to eliminate it from your system. If you don't have antispyware software on your computer, a program like ParetoLogic is an excellent option. Keep it updated, and scan your system once each week. It will not only take care of VirusBursters, it will also protect you from other similar threats.

VirusBursters is a bit of a hassle, and it can exploit security flaws in your system. Remove VirusBursters today.
