Weathering the WeatherStudio Storm

Got WeatherStudio installed on your machine somehow? A new toolbar and weather alerts you don't need? You're not alone. The important thing now is getting it off of your computer, as it can help to bog your machine down in adware problems.

What is WeatherStudio?

WeatherStudio is adware that comes in the form of an Internet Explorer toolbar. In addition to having links about the current weather situation, it also has links to unassociated sites. WeatherStudio can send you popup advertisements as well. It can hijack your internet browser, and it can change your internet settings, which can seriously compromise the safety of your system.

How Did I Get WeatherStudio?

In most cases, WeatherStudio comes bundled with other software products you have recently downloaded. Many shareware and freeware products bundle things like WeatherStudio with their products because it helps to pay the bills. In the case of WeatherStudio, though, you never say an EULA or a privacy policy, which is required for all downloads these days.

What Might I Notice with WeatherStudio?

If you do have WeatherStudio on your computer, there are a couple of things you will probably notice. One of the first things you'll see is a difference in your computer's default home page settings for the browser. Instead of the home page you or the computer's manufacturer chose, it is now the home page of WeatherStudio or another affiliated advertiser. You will probably also notice that your default redirect page is now quite different from the standard "Page Loading Error". Like the home page, it will be for WeatherStudio or one of its affiliates.

Another thing you'll notice when WeatherStudio is installed on your computer is the new toolbar on Internet Explorer. It has links to see a weather forecast in there, but you may also notice a number of other new links as well. You might see links for jewelry, ringtones, and dating. It even has an affiliate search engine built into the tool bar. As a result, when you go to search for a  few keywords online, WeatherStudio will show its advertisements as a part of your search. Don't click on any of those new advertisements. They could  take you to websites that will only further your adware/spyware program through driveby downloads and trojan problems.

WeatherStudio also has the ability to send you popup advertisements for various affiliate products. These advertisements are usually based on your browsing habits. For example, if you're reading an article about new cars, it may show you an advertisement about new car loans online. This, though, means that you have a third party learning more about your browsing preferences and habits.

One final thing you'll notice with WeatherStudio is the speed of your computer system. While it once may have only taken a few seconds to load the programs of your choice,  it will now take several minutes. Programs like WeatherStudio use much of your computer's virtual memory. As a result, when you want to run a program on  your computer, it just doesn't have the space it needs, and so everything gets slowed to a crawl in the traffic jam that has become your computer system.

How Do I Remove WeatherStudio?

If you do choose to remove WeatherStudio from your computer, there are several ways to go about it. First,  you can try to remove WeatherStudio through the add/remove programs control panel of your computer. The primary problem with this removal method, though, is that it doesn't always work. In fact, it pretty rarely works. While it may look like you're having some measure of success right off the bat, the chances are pretty good that the next time you turn on the machine, WeatherStudio will have reappeared.

Another WeatherStudio removal option is to run a system restore or to boot to your last known good settings. The trick to this one, though is that it can only be done right after WeatherStudio has appeared on your computer. As a result, if it took you a bit to figure out the problem, this isn't the best option for you.

You could also manually delete each of the associated program files and registry keys. Keep in mind that each one must be found and removed for a successful uninstall. A missed file could mean the program reinstalls itself. A list of those files and registry keys follow this article. You should also remember that working manually within your computer's registry is really quite dangerous. A single wrong keystroke could result in disaster for you and your computer.

Your final WeatherStudio removal option is perhaps your best one. Use your current antispyware software to get rid of the problem. If you don't have an antispyware software, it's certainly time to get some. ParetoLogic is a good choice. Just keep it updated regularly, and run a system scan at least once a week. It will not only help to eliminate WeatherStudio from your computer, but it may also help to prevent further adware problems.

WeatherStudio is not a particularly rough program, but it does present an annoyance. Remove Weathersudio at your earliest convenience.

For manual WeatherStudio removal, delete the following program files:

%Program Files%Weather Studio
