Paretologic Spam Controls Review

In the perfect wired world, we would all have a personal email secretary to weed out the garbage messages that fill our inboxes daily. For those of us wasting hours each day sifting through email, this may not be a bad hiring decision. But, if your budget doesn't include the space for a new part-time position, an effective spam control software application is a must! Overall, Paretologic offers a quality email helper with Spam Controls to save users valuable time and energy in catching up on the daily influx of information.

Installation

From ParetoLogic's main website, users can download and install a 30 Day Trial Version of Spam Controls. Download is quick, and application installs immediately with Install Shield Wizard. The installation was fairly painless, and the only criticism is the program automatically creates a shortcut on the Desktop. It would be nice if users could choose to create a Shortcut with a check box prior to finishing installation, as it is just the polite thing to do.

Interface and Main Features

Instantly upon starting up, Spam Controls recognized Outlook Express and Outlook. The Options page allows users to effortlessly choose which email accounts to scan. The instant compatibility with Outlook is highly convenient. The interface is graphical but streamlined. Most users will not have a problem selecting options or controlling scans.

One feature Paretologic's Spam Controls offers that escapes many other spam filters is the ability to weed out phishing and text based spam messages. Most of these dangerous spam emails get through other filters, because there are a jumble of keywords in the message to mimic a legitimate message. To a computer, these words look like every other legitimate email message, but to a human it's just nonsense and a clear override of the spam filter.

Paretologic's Spam Controls uses Recurrent Pattern Detection (RPD) technology developed by Commtouch. Remember how keywords or content in the message can fool a regular spam email filter? RPD looks at the way and manner the email message is sent, rather than just the content, to determine almost instantaneously an email is an instance of spam.

Also, since it is compatible with Outlook, users can employ Paretologic's Spam Controls to monitor POP3 accounts. This can be accomplished by sending POP3 email accounts, like Gmail or Yahoo!, through Outlook. Also, entire address books of contact can be added to the Allow List in just a few moments.

Pros and Cons

+ Extremely easy to install and setup.

+ Navigation of controls is effortless.

+ Works with both Windows XP and Vista, and instantly recognizes Outlook and Outlook Express.

+ Uses different approach to filter spam email, so the filter is not easily fooled by keyword mumbo-jumbo.

- Once a sender is on the allowed list, it won't pick up a chain email or spam coming from that user.

- Occasionally legitimate emails are flagged as spam, but this is less frequent than other email spam programs.

Summary

Overall, Paretologic Spam Controls is one of the best spam solutions for those using the Microsoft Office Suite as their primary work space. Spam Controls instantly works with the popular email clients Outlook and Outlook Express. By sending POP3 internet email accounts through Outlook, users can also filter their favorite online email accounts such as Gmail or Yahoo Mail.

The best feature of Paretologic Spam Controls is the use of Recurrent Pattern Detection (RPD). Other spam filters can be hoodwinked by emails that mimic legitimate websites like banking sites, or with a garbling of unrelated keywords. RPD uses the how an email message is sent to determine the spam status. Until email spammers find a way to mask the way the email message is sent, Paretologic's Spam Controls will keep flagging the messages.
